The Membrane Difference

Purexa™ membranes deliver modular, plug-and-play products that adapt to your priorities — whether that’s more runs, lower cost, or a simpler process from screening to commercial scale.

How it works:

Traditional resin chromatography relies on diffusion, with liquid flowing around porous beads packed tightly in a column. Target molecules must diffuse slowly into the internal pores of each bead, navigating the limited surface area.

To reach desired binding, molecules must move gradually — which limits flow rate and lengthens residence times, especially for large biomolecules. As molecule size increases, diffusion becomes even slower, requiring longer residence times to achieve effective binding.

In contrast, membrane chromatography relies on convection with liquid flowing directly through large channels inside the membrane. Target molecules are carried straight to accessible binding sites on the membrane surface, allowing faster processing.

With binding driven by flow rather than uncontrolled molecular motion, mass transfer is rapid and largely independent of molecule size. This convection‑based transport enables significantly higher flow rates, shorter processing times, and consistent performance across scales.

As a result, membrane chromatography is particularly well suited for high‑throughput capture and polishing of large molecules like plasmid DNA and mRNA.

Exact Fit

Match form factor, chemistry, and capacity to meet your exact needs.

Consistent at every scale.

The Purexa™ portfolio is designed to support every stage of development and manufacturing, from discovery through full‑scale production.

The Purexa Prep supports research and screening volumes. As the smallest of our form factors, the Prep also enables early process development and optimization, allowing for minimal buffer and consumables. Prep performance directly translates to our larger form factors, the Purexa Pilot and the Purexa Process

The Pilot is the ideal mid‑scale solution for clinical and intermediate manufacturing volumes, while the Process is ideal for commercial production. The Process can be used by itself or seamlessly scaled by stacking up to five units at once, allowing for maximum output.

Performance is matched at each size ensuring reliable, linear scale‑up with no loss in performance across the portfolio.
